In 16 days, my 22-month-old little one, her father, our cat, our rabbit and I will be on a one-way flight to Florida.
Looking up at my tropical fruit trees from my bed of synthetic materials.
The home we are leaving is a wood cabin at a nudist resort, 🌞 Lupin Lodge, in the Santa Cruz mountains near the Silicon Valley, where I am the only nudist resident who frequents the communal facilities.
Despite the vastness of this land and the moral support of its staff, I and other residents have been forbidden from gardening out on the land. Therefore, all the human residents & their pets are perpetually dependent on deliveries of food grown far away, in unknown conditions.
This 88 year old property, consisting of 112 acres of land, communal facilities, and private dwellings inhabited by ~60 people is being sold by the inheritor for $32.8m.
From this confinement, I have been slowly building a launch for BYTE: BackYard-to-Table Experiences, a decentralized local food movement that uses immediately available resources. However, I can only demonstrate this as much is immediately available to me.
As my baby deeply sleeps after breastfeeding, I slide out from under her and prepare myself a salad.
This salad comprises entirely of organic produce grown in of California, which I acquired almost entirely from a local farmers market.
Torn dino kale, from Castro Farms, is used to pick up noodles made of zucchini (zoodles), from Bounty of the Valley Farm, with Heirloom Organic tomatoes, Castro fennel, Country Rhodes lemon & avocado.

Consistent leak from top white plastic bracket under sink of community kitchen.
This spigot w/ hose has a torrential leak when turned on; potentially fixable by using a wrench on the hose connector.
Leaky spigot
When turned off it doesn’t leak, but if it’s on it leaks from the handle- meaning that no forms of irrigation or hose w/handle can be attached and functioning without a leak.
Probably needs tightening.

“Generate a list of plants that could prevent fire and thrive in Aldercroft region of Los Gatos, CA.”
Aldercroft is a region of Los Gatos, CA that is known for its beautiful landscapes and lush vegetation. The area is home to many different types of plants, including some that are known to be fire resistant. Here are a few examples of plants that could prevent fire and thrive in Aldercroft:
1. Lemonade Berry: This native shrub is known for its ability to resist fires. It also provides food and shelter for many animals.
2. Blue Grama Grass: This grass is not only fire resistant, but it also helps prevent soil erosion.
3. Crape Myrtle: This tree is known for its beautiful flowers and resistance to fires. It also provides shade and can help cool the surrounding air temperature.
4. Fatsia: This plant is known for its large leaves which can help protect other plants from heat and flames.
📷
Animal name (or nickname): Rudy
Kind of Animal: Donkey
Living Conditions and Duration (if known): Small, poop-filled pen, with no friends or room to stroll. Owner, Jack, says that he only feeds Rudy hay and doesn’t take him for walks. (Rudy loves apples.) A longtime visitor of the area estimates this situation has been ongoing for about 9 years.
Signs of Distress: Rudy’s lonely-sounding honks resonate across the valley several times a day; he nips at hands (feed with palm open)
Claimed Owner: Jack
Access Instructions: Find the “Donkey Xing” sign on the road then go north down the slope beside the house. Rudy’s little pen is easily visible.
Recommended Action: Coordinated protests may help Jack consider sending Rudy to greener, larger pastures.
Do you run a sanctuary? Map your sanctuary!
Know of other animals in distress? Map an AID‼️ note!

The Plantathon at Life Force consists of gathering donated plants and seeds and finding locations to plant them.

Materials: shovels, plant protector fences, stakes, container plants & seed packets.
I am a fruitarian, a style of life where one handles a lot of seeds.
I would like more fruit trees in the world.
I plant the seeds in pots of mixed biochar soils and chart them on PlantDiary.

Hugelkultur is a method of enriching soil and increasing growable surface area by burying wood and decaying matter.
This is a proposal for arranging and burying onsite wood to make terraces to grow food and desirable plants.
I recommend consulting with the nearby resident for preferences on terrace shape and thistle handling.
At the time of this writing, the composts on the Lupin Lodge campus are not ready to be applied on the surface. However in a few nearby trials, buried compost was undisturbed by local animals.

activated charcoal, available biochar, biochar, Fire Pit, GreenMe utility, Lupin Lodge
Here is biochar: activated charcoal available to be added to compost.
Biochar is often produced from burning 🪵 wood in 🔥 fire pits.
By adding “#biochar” to any ComPost, such as a 🥗 compost pile,🪣 compost bin, 🚽 composting toilet, 💚 compost deposit, or 💩 commit, you increase the soil’s capacity to support biodiversity.
Primarily wood cut on property, mostly oak
could also contain some Manzanita, bay, sequoia
burned in the Lupin Lodge fire pit by the volleyball court; Could consist of meter wide ring of cement blocks on sand; high ash content
Char is dumped in a pile by the bamboo-lined fence
Biochar must be inoculated with wet biomass to be effective.
Share how you inoculate this biochar:
Copy a link to this biochar and paste it in the Amendments section of a 💚 ComPost, 🥗 Compost Pile, 🪣 Compost Bin, 🥗🚽 Composting Toilet, or 💩 Commit.

The Plantathon at Life Force consists of gathering donated plants and seeds and finding locations to plant them.
Activity Leaders (tentative): Leela, Jeff, Kaitlyn, Ben, Michael
Materials: shovels, plant protector fences, stakes, container plants & seed packets.
I am a fruitarian, a style of life where one handles a lot of seeds.
I would like more fruit trees in the world.
I plant the seeds in pots of mixed biochar soils and chart them on PlantDiary.
I give the rest away, with biochar soil, to provide others with fruit trees.
I believe everyone should have fruit trees.

Residents of Central Park area have expressed interest in incorporating more plants into Central Park.
To start, I recommend building biochar compost at The Clearing to amend the dry top soil here.
The regions blocked in orange are recommended as vegetable gardens
The various shades of green represent fruit trees and understory flowering plants.
The sections with blue represent suggested campsites, parking spaces, and picnic tables.
Developing Central Park into a lush garden would improve the image of the entrance to Lupin Lodge.
